Biden’s Big Government Centrism
President Biden’s 5.8 trillion dollars fiscal year 2023 budget increases “discretionary” spending to 1.6 trillion dollars. The remaining 4.2 trillion dollars of spending consists of “mandatory” spending, including on Social Security, Medicare, and interest on the national debt. The discretionary spending is divided between 813 billion dollars for “defense” and 769 billion dollars for the rest.
Since Biden’s budget increases military spending and does not call for major new government programs, some have described it as “centrist.” Calling a 5.8 trillion dollars tax-and-spend monstrosity “centrist” shows how far the center of American politics is from the principles of limited government.
Little of Biden’s proposed defense budget will be spent to defend the American people, although it will defend the ability of defense contractors, lobbyists, and war party propagandists to continue littering Northern Virginia with “McMansions.” Biden wants to spend yet more to continue the US’s counterproductive intervention in Ukraine, as well as on NATO and other programs aimed at challenging Russia. Biden’s budget also proposes spending 1.8 billion dollars to “support a free and open, connected, secure and resilient Indo-Pacific Region” and another 400 million dollars for the Countering the People’s Republic of China Malign Influence Fund. How would Biden react if China started spending money to challenge the US’s influence in the Western Hemisphere?
Biden’s budget spends 33.2 billion dollars to support law enforcement. Federal spending on local law enforcement violates the Tenth Amendment and takes a step toward nationalizing the police. A national police force would be a grave danger to liberty.
Biden also proposes spending 1.7 billion dollars on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives so it can, among other activities, crack down on gun trafficking. A crackdown on gun trafficking allows the agency to harass gun owners and firearms dealers. Biden’s “centrist” budget also provides funding to crack down on hate crimes. Criminalizing thoughts has no place in a free society.
Biden claims he has reduced spending. However, the only reason spending is down is because Congress has stopped passing multitrillion dollar covid relief bills. Biden’s budget proposes reducing the deficit by raising taxes. Among Biden’s tax proposals is a new 20 percent tax. Biden’s “billionaires tax” breaks new ground in theft by taxing unrealized capital gains — in other words, taxing income that taxpayers did not actually receive!
Biden’s budget estimates an increase in the federal debt to 44.8 trillion dollars in ten years. Of course, the final spending bill approved by Congress will likely spend more on welfare and warfare then Biden is proposing. The spending will force the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates low, further eroding the dollar’s purchasing power and thus increasing demand for welfare and yet more government spending.
America may soon pay the price for attempting to fund a massive welfare-warfare state with fiat currency, America’s ham-fisted intervention in the Ukraine-Russian conflict has caused more countries to seek alternatives to the dollar. This increases pressure for the dollar to lose its world reserve currency status. When that happens, the US will face a major economic crisis featuring hyperinflation, massive unemployment, and the growth of authoritarian political movements. The only way these problems can be avoided is if the people demand the federal government stop trying to run their lives, run the economy, and run the world.

Nothing More to Say About Will Smith
We’re supposed to feel sorry for a tearful actor portraying himself as the victim of his own actions. An actor who supports racial supremacists and terrorist Marxist groups who paralyzed American cities in 2020 and destroyed police departments. Millions of Americans identify with this crap, because it helps them feel like victims of their own evasions and sad choices. That’s the real story here, although the media has encouraged us to fixate on it so we will ignore the destruction of our prosperity and freedom. What a load of hollow, shallow, utterly meaningless, manufactured drivel.

It’s Worse that Trump Said
“The stakes of this year’s midterm elections could not be higher,” Trump told the crowd at his indoor rally, which aired live on Newsmax. “I don’t think we’ve ever had a time in our country where we felt so low, so dejected. What’s going on is absolutely unacceptable.
“We’re living through the most dangerous period of our lifetime. And we have a president who [has] no idea what’s going on. He has no idea what he’s doing, and he’s got no idea what he’s saying or where he is.”
Agreed. We are not merely dejected. We are OCCUPIED by an enemy regime, and a majority in Congress, utterly hostile to our Bill of Rights and freedom itself. It’s not merely unacceptable. It’s unsustainable. We don’t merely need a Red Wave. We will soon need a revolution.

GOP Doesn’t Offer White Voters Much of Anything
Historically, the opposition party wins the midterm elections. President Joe Biden has low approval ratings and would probably lose to Donald Trump if a rematch were held today. Americans are suffering from inflation, crime, and empty shelves at food stores. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has sunk President Biden’s “Build Back Better” legislation. The Commander-in-Chief’s attempt to federalize elections also appears dead. The Cook Political Report projects that Republicans will retake the House.
Should we care?
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) would presumably become the next Speaker. Rep. McCarthy is no profile in courage. He was part of the collective eruption of guilt over the Tulsa riot of 100 years ago, said the GOP is not the party of “nativist dog whistles,” and has a weak record on immigration, probably because of agricultural interests in his district. He talked at length about the GOP’s new “Commitment to America” to Breitbart; there’s not much in it for us. It doesn’t mention race, except for congressional races. If you’re a white American fed up with your government making you a second-class citizen, you’ve come to the wrong place.
To be overly fair, Rep. McCarthy says some good things. He says he wants to “clean up” voter rolls. He asks whether Americans want “this one-party rule that’s brought us inflation, open borders, unsafe communities, and a supply chain where products are scarce” or “something that’s going to make our economy stronger, our streets safer, our border secure, and [ensure that] the next century [is] the American century.” Rep. McCarthy also promises a “parents’ bill of rights” and lauds the election in Virginia, in which parents’ anger over Critical Race Theory in schools drove a Republican upset victory. Attacks on critical race theory, immigration, and crime are all good.
One might even call them “nativist dog whistles.”
These issues are what Americans want to talk about. The Virginia election proved that. A new poll found that Americans say immigration is more important than climate change, education, and foreign policy (even after the Afghanistan defeat.). It trails only the economy (the GOP has the advantage by default) and the pandemic (President Biden has not only failed to stop the disease but seems to have given up.)
But the plan doesn’t give us much. In its “one page” summary, “The Commitment to America” pledges that once in power the GOP will be “upholding free speech” and will “secure our border, and enforce our immigration laws.” Will huge numbers of illegals be deported? There’s no mention of affirmative action.
The GOP’s “Commitment to America” website has lots of tweets and complaints but few ideas. It shows the scope of President Biden’s failure on border security and crime but doesn’t say what Republicans would do. The “American Security” Task Force claims Republicans “do have a strategy to end Biden’s Border Crisis,” but doesn’t say what it is. Kevin McCarthy’s website offers a few more specifics and links to specific bills. He pledges to increase police funding for by $1.75 billion.
“Free speech is being challenged by big tech companies that give preference to one point of view but suppress another,” says the website. Earlier this month Rep. McCarthy said that big tech platforms “should not be allowed to use the shield of Section 230” because they are acting as publishers when they censor lawful points of view. The Republican “Task Force” on Big Tech Censorship and Data says, “It is time to scrap Section 230 and start over.”
Ending Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act is not a solution. Scrapping it would mean that sites such as Facebook and Twitter would be treated as publishers rather than platforms and thus be open to litigation if a user posts defamation, advertises illegal activity, releases damaging private information., etc. This would be an excuse to censor even more.
Also, huge corporations can police content far more easily than smaller companies. Andrew Torba of Gab, perhaps the most censored and canceled corporation in history, argues that Section 230 should be kept “exactly the way it is” because it “helps the little guy.” Given our own experience suing a tech company, lawyers and courts are not a solution. Abolishing Section 230 may be the worst of both worlds. It would create the illusion of action against Big Tech while crushing small tech.
Will Chamberlain of Human Events had the right approach when he argued that “Platform Access Is A Civil Right.” He says, correctly, that the federal government helped create many of these major social media companies and that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 means that the “private property” argument does not justify discrimination: “We, as a society, do not have to allow private companies to violate Americans’ civil rights.”
Kevin McCarthy’s plan is to make tech companies “implement and maintain a reasonable user-friendly appeals process,” which will somehow “empower conservatives and others whose speech rights have been infringed to challenge Big Tech’s attacks.” This would leave things in the hands of Big Tech and/or the legal system. He also has alluded vaguely to antitrust action, but the Biden Administration is doing this anyway.
What can we expect from a Republican majority? Judging from the House GOP’s blog posts, the Republicans are mad at President Biden for not being sufficiently anti-Russian or spending enough money on Capitol Police. Still, an investigation into the events of January 6 might be fruitful. Even as this is written, the mysterious “Ray Epps” is trending on Twitter while “fact checkers” assure us he wasn’t working for the government. Senator Ted Cruz even brought up this “conspiracy theory” in a recent hearing, though he has called January 6, 2021 a “terrorist attack.” The GOP can’t seem to decide if the riot was a terrorist attack, a “fedsurrection,” or no big deal.
What would a Republican majority do? Limit FBI power as the Church Committee limited CIA power? Will all immigration laws be enforced? Will Big Tech censorship end? Since the Republican Revolution of 1994, the GOP has been trying to repeat the magic of the “Contract With America.” However, the Contract With America’s brilliance was its simplicity and clarity. Republicans promised to pass specific laws. Instead, “The Commitment With America” gives us cute sloganeering: “We fight to Restore, Rebuild, Renew,” while the Democrats will “Defund, Destroy, Dismantle.”
Republicans may take Congress simply because Americans are disgusted with the Biden Administration, but the GOP won’t repair the damage. That’s the story of American politics since Nixon. Even when Republicans win, the country keeps moving left, especially on racial, cultural, and sexual issues. This is no surprise; the conservative movement is arguably dedicated to avoiding using government power.
Republicans offer rhetorical opposition. Democrats use power. They are preparing to use the national security state against whites. You may yet face prison or persecution because of your views. Whatever you think of them, what the federal government and private companies have done to Nick Fuentes or Laura Loomer is deeply disturbing.
Republicans have accepted leftist cultural victories rather than reverse them. We must tell them what we expect, or they don’t get our vote. Third parties such as the American Freedom Party or the National Justice Party may be “fringe,” but whites cannot survive another 50 years of winning at the ballot box but losing everywhere else.
Here are five things most Republicans want.
- Abolish all affirmative action and racial preferences in law.
- Require platform access as a civil right for all lawful speech. (If this can’t be done because private property is sacred, repeal the Civil Rights Act, allow restrictive covenants, and restore freedom of association.)
- Enforce all immigration laws and pass President Donald J. Trump’s 2016 immigration program, including mandatory E-Verify, ending birthright citizenship, and building a wall.
- End Critical Race Theory in public school and give money to families that don’t want to send their children to failing, unpatriotic public schools. Make a free market in education. The GOP plan only hints at school choice.
- End the DOJ’s war on “domestic terrorism” and fight real crime, especially violence.
White advocates on the vanguard must direct our fire against so-called conservatives who have failed us for so long, not just “liberals” and their media.
I want laws enforced equally, my race treated fairly, my country’s history and culture respected. Otherwise, we owe the party and government that is supposed to represent us no allegiance.
President Biden’s blundering may be the last opportunity to keep America together. If the Republican Party fails, have options: redraw boundaries within the Union, start new political movements, and, if necessary, go back to the way the United States was founded by starting a country of our own.
It’s dangerous when people who say they are your friends represent you but act like your enemies. Politics is the art of the possible, but if the GOP can’t even be counted to stand for white equality, voting Republican and hoping things will get better is pointless. Secession, proposing a monarchy, or declaring Nick Fuentes the pope are all more realistic.
There is a time limit before whites are reduced to a powerless minority. What is at stake is the survival of our nation, people, and civilization. If Kevin McCarthy doesn’t get that, he won’t help us. If no Republicans get that, then there is no reason to support the Party of Lincoln at all.

Beware of Toxic People
One of the subjects most often brought up in my office is how to deal with toxic, psychologically damaging relationships. Kristen Fuller, M.D., writes: “I myself had all the tools to avoid a toxic relationship, but I entered into an emotionally and mentally toxic relationship with someone who seemed like he had everything: a great family, prestigious education, a successful career and apparently a kind personality. I quickly realized this was all a façade and learned how deep toxicity runs and why it is so hard to escape emotional and mental torture when someone looks so ‘perfect’ on the outside.
“As the saying goes, ‘Beauty is only skin deep.’ I learned the importance of recognizing toxic relationships and friendships and how to navigate these types of relationships. I have learned to cut the bad people out of my life and treasure those who bring positivity. In the end, I have become a stronger person in all capacities, even though it took being dragged through what seemed like endless amounts of darkness.”
Wise words! Toxic people seduce you with their good qualities. They count on your liking them for their objectively good qualities as a way to mask their negative qualities. Toxicity stems from false beliefs. For example, “If I’m charming or desirable with my material or social status, I can treat people however I want.” For a time, that might be true. But the kind of person who will only care about material status will not be a loving, reliable or loyal. And as time goes by quality people will be driven away.
What is toxicity? One article describes the toxic personality: overly critical; passive-aggressive; narcissist; “stone waller,” and antisocial. In essence, a toxic person is deliberately mean-spirited and seeks to play that out with others. Toxic individuals like to poison social situations because it gives them a sense of power and/or alleviates pent-up frustrations. It also can make the toxic person feel strong, even if only through irrational stubbornness – an example of “stonewalling”.
In short, toxic people are individuals who seem like they’re worth it, but they’re really not. Over time, observant individuals will begin to see what’s happening. The challenge is to not question yourself once you see it. Apply the antidote, as expressed by Dr. Fuller: “I have learned to cut out the bad people out of my life and treasure those who bring positivity.”
In a nutshell, see toxic behavior for what it is. Reaffirm that you don’t need it in your life. For example, your marital partner is toxic. Well, that’s what divorce is for. Don’t like divorce? Your only option is to stay put and spend your life with someone who’s sociopathic, narcissistic or passive-aggressive. The same applies to family: Where is it written that you have to spend time with them? Who’s forcing you?
There could be an important reason (business, finances, kids) where it’s worthwhile to keep such a person around, at least for a time. Then it’s your decision to make that your priority. In owning that decision, remember that you can change your mind at any time it becomes worthwhile for you to do so. We’re allowed to change our priorities and change our minds!
Don’t let toxic people wear you down. It it’s not immediately feasible to eliminate them from your life, at least minimize your involvement with them. Don’t be a victim. Keep your distance, not just from their company but from their whole poisonous way of thinking, speaking and living. Never feel sorry for them. They brought this on themselves, and on several levels they enjoy the negativity they create. None of that has to be a part of your own atmosphere. Maintain your benevolence and do as this wise physician I quoted suggests: “Treasure those who bring positivity.” It’s easier than you think, and it will make all the difference in your happiness.

REGIME CHANGE now under way in the USA: Biden on the chopping block as intelligence community activates emergency self-preservation actions
Several days ago, fake president Joe Biden called for regime change in Russia, practically begging Russia’s military generals to remove Putin from power. But that hasn’t happened. What’s happening instead is that America’s intelligence community “generals” are now moving against Joe Biden.
I received intel over the weekend that the IC (Intelligence Community) three letter agencies had come to the realization that if they didn’t stop Biden’s accelerating destruction of America, they would all be wiped out as America collapsed. I shared this intel in a Monday morning podcast and article that you can read here. The title of that article tells the story: “ANALYSIS: Embedded “good guys” are turning against the cabal… It’s ALL coming out… and the awakening cannot be halted.”
Yesterday, the Washington Post and CNN took action that confirmed all this, running bombshell stories that exposed details from Hunter Biden’s “laptop from hell.” In essence, the CIA ordered the Washington Post to start exposing the Biden crime family. This is all being done in preparation for Biden’s removal from power.
As Zero Hedge wrote yesterday, “Hunter Biden Dam About To Burst? WaPo, CNN Go Scorched Earth Over ‘Laptop From Hell’”:
Two weeks ago, the New York Times confirmed the laptop exists, and is legit – and confirmed several previously reported aspects of the story, including correspondence between Hunter and his business partner Devon Archer, both of whom served on the board Ukrainian energy giant Burisma.
Today, the Washington Post and CNN are piling on – with the post confirming yet-more details of the laptop contents, and CNN running a blistering segment and reporting that the federal investigation into Hunter is ‘heating up.”
So the same corporate media that lied and covered up the truth about the Biden crime family has now been ordered to unleash the truth about the Bidens in preparation for Biden’s removal from office.
It’s not yet clear exactly how Biden is going to be removed, but the action is imminent
We don’t have any details on how Biden will be removed, but we are aware that indictment documents for the Bidens are currently circulating among three-letter agencies. The FBI, CIA, NSA, DHS, etc., are all fully aware of the extent of the Biden crimes — as they have been since early 2016, it turns out — and they are now deciding how much to release publicly in order to set the appropriate narrative for Biden to be removed from office.
Hunter Biden will likely be indicted, and Joe will be sufficiently close to the accused crimes that he is forced to resign. So this means the 25th Amendment option isn’t the most likely outcome here. Rather, there will be evidence released from Hunter Biden’s laptop that ensnares the fake president, forcing his resignation as the media fans the flames of outrage.
The reason the IC and media are on board with this is because they need to chain a lot of bad baggage to Biden and then place the blame for all those things squarely on his shoulders while protecting the Democrat brand for other potential candidates. So you’re going to see the media articles and deep state leaks focusing on things that are very specific to official abuse of power carried out by the Bidens themselves, and not anything that would cast a wider net on the DNC or the Democrat party as a whole. After all, they need to limit the damage to the Democrat brand in the 2022 mid-terms.
Crucially, the IC has no intention whatsoever of installing Trump into power, and I want to be clear about that. This isn’t a reversal of the 2020 election theft; it’s simply the IC deep state practicing its own self-preservation emergency procedures to make sure they don’t get wiped out by Biden’s insane, unbounded criminality and incompetence.

New intel on the wave of suicide bombers headed for Western Europe (and maybe even America)
We have also received important intel — scrubbed of all OPSEC details that might compromise security for US forces — warning about a wave of suicide bombers being recruited in Afghanistan, armed with suicide vests in Iran, then transported to Ukraine and placed under the temporary control of Russian military units. Their ultimate goal is to move into Western European nations (NATO nations are the target) by posing as Ukrainian refugees.
They are armed with kinetic explosive vests which can be easily disassembled and reassembled in order to evade detection during border crossings. Importantly, some of the terrorists are in possession of explosive vests augmented with dirty bomb materials (i.e. radioisotopes). These are not extremely radioactive but are more along the lines of low-level radiation, just enough to make an area unsafe to inhabit and spread the fear of a “radiation dirty bomb.” These materials likely do not pose an acute risk of radiation poisoning, or they would be too unsafe to transport by the suicide bombers themselves.
We are told that suicide bomber attacks are now anticipated in Paris, London, Berlin and other prominent cities in NATO countries. Likely targets will be “soft” targets with high human density such as cafes, concerts, theaters, etc.
Part of this effort is designed to create economic and political instability in the West, combined with the economic difficulties caused by Putin demanding payment for energy exports in Rubles (which goes into effect tomorrow, if it is fully enforced).
Many enemies of the West are seizing upon this moment in history to unleash a variety of attacks from multiple vectors: Currency attacks, kinetic attacks, radiological attacks, refugee “flooding” of NATO nations, energy scarcity, etc.
Terrorists will likely attempt to enter the USA
We are also told that efforts will be made by suicide bombers to gain access to the continental United States (CONUS) with anticipation of suicide bombing attacks on low-security soft targets in the USA. Importantly, this means that our military intelligence believes these suicide bombers will not attempt to go after high-security targets such as the actual White House grounds which are very, very secure, but rather will target unguarded civilians who gather in large numbers at social events such as concerts, restaurants, theaters, etc.
We are not passing this along in order to incite fear in anyone, but rather to help our readers be prepared to anticipate these events which have already been set into motion by the global dynamics of war with Russia, economic sanctions, commodities shortages, currency wars, etc. An individual person’s actual chance of being caught in a suicide bombing in the USA is virtually zero. The far greater risk to us all is how a tyrannical government regime will respond to the escalation in terrorism violence by expanding surveillance of citizens, rolling out more security checkpoints, unlawful searches of ordinary citizens, and potentially even racial profiling of anyone who resembles a Middle Eastern profile.
In other words, the real danger to America is not the suicide bomber terrorism, but the reaction of government tyranny against its own citizens and the exploitation of another crisis to take away individual liberty. Note that the only reason such terrorists have easy access to the continental United States is because the US government outright refuses to secure the southern border. This is all being engineered on purpose.

The U.S. is Being Pushed into Tyranny
“Without any doubt, we stand before turbulent and also dangerous times, but we hold an historic trump card in our hands. It consists in the fact that the other side does not act according to the rules of reason but strives out of motives of greed and power and therefore, cannot do anything other than bring itself into ever greater difficulties. We should use exactly that (weakness) and always keep in view, that the other side likes more money, more property and additionally, to have available all the weapons in the world. But their power is not based on their money, nor on their possessions or their weapons but relies solely upon one factor: And that is the ignorance of the majority of people. i.e., the majority doesn’t understand the evil game that this minority are playing with them.” — Ernst Wolff, August, 2021
The official Covid narrative has collapsed despite the world of lies created by the whore media and Western public health officials, but the effort to destroy human freedom continues. Dr. Robert Malone, one of the brave medical doctors who was demonized because he fought for Covid truth, names government officials, media, and tech company executives who, as acolytes and operatives of the World Economic Forum, orchestrated and sustained the “Covid pandemic” as an attack on civil liberty and human freedom. Here are some of the worst mass murderers of human history:
- Politics and policy: White House coronavirus response coordinator Jeffrey Zients, lobby group #Masks4All co-founder Jeremy Howard, California Governor Gavin Newsom, 2020 presidential candidate and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Chelsea Clinton, Hillary Clinton confidante Huma Abedin, former U.S. ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, former U.S. ambassador to the UN and USAID administrator Samantha Power, Eurasia Group founder Ian Bremmer, U.S.-British financier Bill Browder, Jonathan Soros (son of George Soros), Human Rights Watch director Kenneth Roth, economist Paul Krugman, former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers, Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza, Ivanka Trump, and former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii).
- Legacy media: CNN medical analyst Leana Wen, CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, Twitter personality Eric Feigl-Ding, New York Times financial columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, ABC News commentator George Stephanopoulos, Fox CEO and News Corp co-chair Lachlan Murdoch, Bloomberg columnist Justin Fox, and CNN commentator Anderson Cooper.
- Technology and social media: Microsoft founder Bill Gates, former Microsoft CEO Steven Ballmer, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel, eBay co-founder Pierre Omidyar, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, and Pfizer VP Vasudha Vats.

Dr. Malone introduces us to a presentation in August 2021 by Ernst Wolff in which Wolff explains how the digital-financial complex is working to exterminate human freedom. Digital money will destroy all dissent from the elite agenda by terminating the dissenters’ financial, and thus physical, existence.
The push for digital money is as great a danger as nuclear war. The World Economic Forum has given the Canadian Banking Association the lead in the creation of digital money. https://www.globalresearch.ca/boom-trudeau-reversal-motive-surfaces-canadian-banking-association-approved-world-economic-forum-lead-digital-id-creation/5772013
Canada’s prime minister Trudeau, having proven himself a ruthless operative against civil liberty, is regarded by the WEF’s Klaus Schwab as a true fellow Nazi.
Western peoples, hoodwinked by an orchestrated “health crisis,” have demonstrated to the ruling elite that they will sacrifice their freedom for the illusion of safety. As Benjamin Franklin said, those who will give up liberty for security will have neither liberty nor security. In the entirety of the Western World, champions of liberty hold no power positions. With the media totally in the hands of the elite, how do people become aware of the challenge that they face?

Eisenhower Warned Us About 2022
In his 1961 farewell address to the nation as President, Dwight D. Eisenhower predicted with illuminating and disturbing clarity the exact predicament we find ourselves in today, sixty years later.
A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction.
Our military organization today bears little relation to that known by any of my predecessors in peace time, or indeed by the fighting men of World War II or Korea.
Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations.
This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. Th Aboute total influence-economic, political, even spiritual-is felt in every city, every state house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.
Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades.
In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.
Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been over shadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.
The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.
Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.
