Why is Finland the Happiest Country in the World ?

For 5 years in a row, Finland has ranked # 1 as the happiest country in the world, according to the “World Happiness Report.”

A self-described psychology expert from Finland attributes this to 3 factors:

(1)”We don’t compare ourselves to our neighbors.”

I agree! Captain Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation once told young ensign Wesley Crusher never to compare himself to others; only with his own last best result.

Comparing yourself to others, as a general rule, will either make you feel down about yourself for not being as good as someone else; OR make you feel content with not growing or improving, since you’re perhaps ahead of everyone else.

Other people are not the standard. The standard is simply the standard!

(2) “We don’t overlook the benefits of nature.”

I like this in one respect. There’s more to life than what’s on the computer. If you never leave the computer to look at a sunset or sunrise, or to enjoy what’s around you — the man made as well as the “God given” — then you’re doing yourself a disservice. It saddens me to see young children always or only on their computers, and never out playing tag, spontaneous sports (in the neighborhood, not just the organized team), playing hide-and-seek, or simply smelling the air, enjoying the sunlight and reflecting. You virtually NEVER see this any more.

It makes me sad not because I want to control children and I think they should do only what I want them to do. It makes me sad because virtually everyone agrees that children are more miserable, as a group, than they used to be. And they’re growing up into 20 and 30 somethings who are pretty miserable, anxious people too, by all indications.

So if residents of Finland have this figured out, good for them!

Now, if you turn love of nature into a fundamentalist religion, and you want to shut down or morally condemn fossil fuels, technology and anything that’s man made, then you’re not going to be happy. You’re going to despise yourself for benefiting from the man made and — if you join the crusade to shut all of the man made down — you’ll end up harming or even killing millions of people (including, quite possibly, yourself).

Love of nature cannot be turned into the modern “woke” version of self-annihilating mysticism. There’s no way you can call that happiness!

(3) “We don’t break the community circle of trust.” If you find someone’s wallet, you make every effort to return it to them.  You treat others the way you want to be treated. You don’t sacrifice for them. You don’t give up your lives and your happiness for them. But you DO give them the minimal level of respect you want for yourself, unless or until they show otherwise.

It’s called a benevolent attitude. The benevolent attitude consists of assuming everyone else is fine and good — and not your adversary. UNLESS or UNTIL an individual gives you reason to suspect otherwise. But you don’t start out assuming this about everybody. If you do, you’ll be miserable and unhappy, for sure. And no more self-protected than you started out, either.

Trust, but verify. But trust. And act like you’re trustworthy, too — even with strangers, where it’s relevant, with things like a found wallet.

Not a bad approach to happiness. In America and elsewhere, there’s less of this than we’ve ever seen before. How ironic to live in a time where everything is in place to ensure happiness more than ever before — and yet fewer people are probably happy than ever before.

No wonder we’re losing our liberty. Because without inner peace and serenity, liberty is meaningless — and it won’t last for long, either.

Coalition Government ? We Already Have it

“Coalition Government” with DemComs? We already have that! Any “coalition” with a Communist-fascist movement based on brute force against peaceful citizens means one thing: Brute force wins.

Coalition is a decorative concept. Dems set the agenda, Republicans implement it. This has gone on for generations. Dems pass Social Security and Medicare; Republicans implement and even expand them. Dems pass Obamacare; Republicans (aside from Trump) make no effort to dismantle it, despite promises. Dems inaugurate new taxes, starting with the income tax a century ago; Republicans raise taxes they initially claimed to oppose.

We already have a coalition government. We already have ONE party. We need a SECOND party. If you think you’re going to get it under Kevin McCarthy, you’re mistaken. But if you think you’re going to get it under anyone who opposes him, you’re likely mistaken too.

None of these skirmishes are about anything important. They’re just the Congressional version of the Palace Intrigue. At the end of the day we know we’re going to end up with MORE government, MORE taxes, MORE IRS agents, MORE arrests by the FBI for dissenting political views, MORE censorship by “private” tech giants acting as agents for the government while bragging about it, MORE elimination of borders so the United States can pay for a gigantic international welfare state. We’re going to keep getting ALL of these things and worse, regardless of how the Palace Intrigue in Washington DC works out.

If you’re interested in drama and intrigue, check out Netflix and Amazon Prime. Right now, they’re doing a much better job.

America’s Solutions Are No Longer Political

The fight within the Republican Party over choice of Speaker of the House reveals the frustration over the fact that our “two” political parties are now a Uniparty. There’s no disagreement on anything important, when it comes to action or principle. It’s only a matter of price tag, or time.

Get real: Washington DC is rotten to the core, & is irredeemable. Most of us know it, but are not quite ready to say it. The sooner we accept it, the sooner we can come up with alternatives. The Biden regime is NOT the U.S. Constitution or Bill of Rights. Neither is most of the GOP.

Kevin McCarthy is not going to fix it. Nor will anybody else. By definition, if you are part of this horrible government, you are now part of the problem — even if you’re one of the minority who doesn’t mean to be.

The real issue? The solutions are no longer political. Political solutions come from a change in government. But morality is more fundamental than government. Once morality is out the window, the Constitution — based on a strong moral code of individualism, individual rights, private property and free markets — cannot survive.

Again, get real. Nobody attracted to the leftist Communist-fascist movement that is now the Democratic Party qualifies as a moral person. Some attracted to the Republican Party are moral, and some are not. But after a few years in office, most of them no longer are decent people. And if they are, they’re simply ineffectual. Not because of any personal failings, necessarily; but you don’t send in a Boy Scout to tame a gang of murderous mobsters. The murderous mobsters — by the definition of who they are — would not listen to anyone virtuous.

It’s not that the situation is hopeless. It’s just that the solutions to the situation are no longer political. Our government is a gang of ruthless, rotten, corrupt, more often than not murderous mobsters. It doesn’t really matter what Kevin McCarthy is. He tries to straddle the middle between good guys and bad guys, to please everyone, but it frankly doesn’t matter if he prevails. In order to please the people really in charge, he has to become one of them — and most likely, as his critics point out, already is.

When we the people living under this gang of mobsters become better people — which includes becoming less fearful — then we the people, as a group, will rise up and refuse to tolerate any of it any longer. We’ll simply stop accepting the legitimacy of having most of our lives run by a gang of mobsters. The government as we know it will either wither away, or be replaced by something much more compatible with the original American Constitution.

But so long as half or so of us WANT these mobsters, and the other half or so pretend they aren’t mobsters, then we’re going to remain the victims we are.

Freedom: It’s not Gone Yet

Freedom is under attack, perhaps as never before, at least in America.

But freedom has ALWAYS been under attack. All manner of psychopaths, control freaks, and neurotics are against freedom for any number of reasons. It’s nothing new.

If you become depressed over the fact that freedom is under attack, you might as well become depressed over the fact that parades or ball games are sometimes rained out; or that snow sometimes prevents air or car travel.

It’s probably in the nature of things for people to attack freedom.

The question is: Are they winning?

It’s tempting to say: Check back in a year. Or in a decade. It’s honestly true that we cannot predict the future. Even with one person, there are too many variables; with freedom, we’re talking millions or billions of people. You cannot predict.

We do know one thing for sure. It hasn’t been possible to destroy freedom completely. Enemies of freedom were attacking our Bill of Rights in the 1980s, in the 1960s, in the 1860s and probably back to the beginning. So what? That in itself doesn’t prove anything, other than the fact that freedom is not popular. But its lack of popularity has not kept it from surviving and (at some points) even flourishing. Because freedom leads to better results than any of the alternatives, no matter how much you hate freedom.

The reality is: Most people who hate freedom intend on having it for themselves; it’s OTHER PEOPLE’S freedom they cannot tolerate. But such a contradiction cannot sustain itself. It’s one major reason why no statist regime has ever survived, not forever. Communism, Maoism, Nazism — they all fell. It doesn’t mean they were replaced by freedom, but every attack on freedom eventually fails. Every attempt at freedom succeeds way beyond expectations. The only problem? Most people cannot yet handle freedom. Mankind has, perhaps, not yet evolved enough.

So freedom remains under attack. But it’s not dead. Yes, Facebook, Google and (initially) Twitter censored any comments or evidence going against the Biden regime narrative on COVID. So did most of the major news networks. But it was still possible to find those perspectives. And now they’re all back on Twitter. Censorship has won too many battles, for sure; but it also eventually loses some big battles, and it has NOT won the war. Especially so long as people are still free to speak “incorrect” things and be heard.

And maybe freedom will never be totally dead, especially so long as a vibrant and principled minority stand ready to defend their own individual rights.

That’s all freedom has ever required: a vibrant and articulate minority. Not even a majority. Because up to now, at least, a majority has never wanted freedom.

Try to keep your spirits up. Freedom is one hell of a tough sell, because most people are still afraid of it.

But freedom can and will still prevail. That the United States existed, and went as far as it did, is solid proof of that.

Happy 2023!

American Nazis & American Marxists: One and the Same

Imagine if these loathsome scumbags were given the power to ship dissenters on the 21st century equivalent of cattle cars to the 21st century American equivalent of concentration camps. If we fail to get them the hell away from government power, this is exactly what they will do.

************

Nihilistic environmentalists in the Biden regime are so keen on protecting us from alleged planetary destruction that they’re prepared to impose certain economic destruction, along with the end of civilization. Thank you, leftists!

The Libertarian Party tweeted:

The FBI literally handed Twitter lists of Americans to be silenced, and Twitter happily did their bidding.

Why is this story already dying?

My reply:

Most Americans are so resigned to censorship–some even support it–that it’s no longer considered outrageous. This country is finished as a free country, which is why the one Party in power is so arrogant.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want all of the wealth and glory of being royalty, and none of the burdens or responsibilities. In other words: They’re leftists.

Venezuela’s socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro wants to normalize relations with the Biden regime–a fellow socialist dictatorship.
