A Hail Mary Solution to the Debt Crisis

Eevery U.S. citizen now owes roughly $100,000 in federal debt. That is the grim news from the most recent study by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). CBO data show that federal debt has been growing at an unsustainable rate for decades and will continue to do so in coming years. At some point, the United States will hit a fiscal cliff, when lack of confidence in the ability of the federal government to repay the debt will result in sharply higher interest rates and default.  We are in the final years of our debt crisis.

Congress is simply unable to bring federal expenditures into balance with federal revenues to stabilize and reduce federal debt. Congress has passed numerous statutory rules mandating this solution, but these rules are routinely circumvented and suspended. There is little discussion of the debt crisis in this election year because elected officials have in effect thrown in the towel.

However, the states have now launched a Hail Mary to solve the debt crisis. State attorneys general will soon file a lawsuit in the U.S. Supreme Court, which seeks a Declaratory Judgement against Congress for failing to fulfil its constitutional duty under Article V to record and count state applications for a fiscal responsibility amendment.

Article V of the U.S. Constitution gives the states as well as Congress the power to propose amendments. The states have submitted applications for a fiscal responsibility amendment for centuries, but Congress has failed to record and count these applications. In 1979, two thirds of the states had submitted applications for a fiscal responsibility amendment, but Congress failed to count these applications or call the amendment convention.

This year, Rep. Jody Arrington (R-TX) filed HCR 24, which would require Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty to record and count state applications for a fiscal responsibility amendment and call the amendment convention if the requisite applications by two thirds of the states is met. Unfortunately, this legislation has made little headway in Congress.

Citizens are now left with the Hail Mary solution. The Supreme Court must issue a Declaratory Judgment against Congress for failing to record and count state applications for a fiscal responsibility amendment.  Congress must then record and count the state applications. If the requisite two-thirds of the states have submitted such applications, Congress must then set the time and place for an amendment convention. If two-thirds of the states in the convention agree on a fiscal responsibility amendment, the proposed amendment must be submitted to the states for ratification. Three-fourths of the states must ratify the proposed amendment for it to be incorporated in the Constitution.

This is a Hail Mary solution for several reasons. The states have never amended the Constitution through an Article V amendment convention. The Supreme Court must issue an unprecedented Declaratory Judgment requiring Congress to record and count the state applications, a major legal hurdle. Two-thirds of the states must agree on a fiscal responsibility amendment in an Article V amendment convention, and three-fourths of the states must then ratify the proposed amendment. These are major barriers in bringing a fiscal responsibility amendment to the states for ratification. But before we throw in the towel, it is important to note the precedents for incorporating effective fiscal rules in the Constitution.

Countries such as Switzerland have been successful in using constitutional fiscal rules to solve their debt crisis. The Swiss have a long history of incorporating fiscal rules in their constitutions at all levels of government through direct democracy. The Swiss debt brake was incorporated in the Swiss Constitution through a referendum with support from 85 percent of Swiss citizens. The debt brake simply requires Swiss legislators to bring expenditures into balance with revenue in the near term. A cap is placed on the rate of growth in federal spending equal to the long run rate of economic growth. The debt brake allows for emergency spending in the short term, but deficits must be offset by surplus revenue within a six-year period.

The importance of the Swiss debt brake was revealed this year when the Swiss Parliament rejected a proposed budget that exceeded the spending limit and would have required suspension of the debt brake. The Swiss Parliament also rejected legislation earmarking funds for the Ukraine War because the spending violated the debt brake rules. In contrast to the United States, the Swiss debt brake has imposed effective constraints on fiscal policies over the long term. The debt brake helped Switzerland to stabilize and reduce federal debt as a share of national income.

Polls reveal that an overwhelming majority of U.S. citizens support a fiscal responsibility amendment to the Constitution. So, if a fiscal responsibility amendment is ever submitted to the states for ratification there is a high probability that the measure would pass. However, the odds are against the United States enacting a fiscal responsibility amendment in the Constitution though the Article V process. We are like the football coach with one play left to win the ball game; we don’t have much choice.

“Gaslighting” is not a Psychological Term

Everyone talks these days about “gaslighting.” They want to know the formal psychological definition. It’s not a formal psychological term, so there isn’t one. (I am a mental health professional of 36 years, so I know.) So far as I can tell, “gaslighting” means someone does something self-evidently wrong, cruel or illogical to you, and then pretends he or she didn’t. “What’s wrong?” It’s infuriating to the point of speechlessness and fosters a sense of rage and helplessness in the recipient.

Surely people do this to each other quite a bit, which has given rise to the popularity of the term. I am hard pressed to find more eloquent or concise examples of gaslighting than the attitude and actions of our politicians, bureaucrats and media people. They are literally destroying our livelihoods and our liberties, and then acting not just like it’s nothing, but like they’re our virtuous saviors. It’s sick in the extreme, and it’s in no way sustainable.

50 YEARS OF DEBATES HAVE SHOWN US WHO BIDEN IS

  • With the first presidential debate of the 2024 election just a week away, the Biden team has been in “intensive discussion and preparation” at Camp David, hoping Biden will be able to revive his former strength.
    • Meanwhile, President Trump has been traveling around the country, engaging with voters at rallies and through media interviews.
  • Biden has been doing political debates for 50 years, having taken part in at least 40candidatedebates since 1972.
  • More than three years into Biden’s presidency, the American people have seen nothing but crisis after crisis, have less money in their pockets, and are tired of their tax dollars being wasted.

BIDEN HAS CREATED AN UNPRECEDENTED CRISIS AT THE BORDER

  • Biden’s failed immigration policies have created an unprecedented crisis at the border.
  • Under Biden, more people on the FBI terror watchlist were arrested at the southern border in FY 2023 than in the last six years combined.
  • Illegal aliens have committed horrific crimes against American citizens.
    • Just this week, an illegal alien was arrested for the brutal rape and murder of mom-of-five Rachel Morin.
    • Earlier this year, 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley was murdered by an illegal alien while out on a run.
  • Public resources in cities across the United States are strained due to the massive influx of migrants dependent on welfare.
    • Several hospitals are struggling to stay afloat amid millions of dollars in unpaid medical debt racked up by illegal aliens.
    • New York City is struggling to fund its police force after massive spending on services for illegal aliens.
  • Fentanyl, now the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18 to 45, is pouring through the border
  • Under Trump, the border was secure – and will be again under his leadership.
    • President Trump built nearly 500 miles of the world’s most robust and advanced border wall, resulting in an 87 percent reduction in illegal border crossings where the wall stands.
    • President Trump ended the dangerous policy of “catch-and-release,” which allowed illegal aliens to be released into the United States, often never to be seen again.
    • Under President Trump, the United States entered a historic partnership with the Mexican government to deploy tens of thousands of Mexican soldiers to secure their side of the border.

AMERICANS ARE WORSE OFF FINANCIALLY UNDER BIDEN

BIDEN’S TRADE POLICIES HAVE PUT AMERICA LAST

HARDWORKING AMERICANS HAVE PAID FOR BIDEN’S WAR ON AMERICAN ENERGY

  • Biden has wreaked havoc on American energy after promising to “eliminate” oil and natural gas.
  • Biden has looked everywhere but the U.S. for solutions to high gas prices.
  • Hardworking Americans are suffering the cost of Biden’s war on American energy.
    • Under Biden, energy prices have soared nearly 30 percent—13 times faster than the previous seven years, and all 50 states have reached new record-high gas prices.
    • Americans have lost over $4,435 paying higher energy costs since Biden took office, and nearly 20 million households have fallen behind on utility bills while costs continue to rise.
  • Biden has depleted more than 40 percent of the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), bringing the SPR down to its lowest level in four decades – further jeopardizing American energy independence amid multiple growing crises around the world.
    • In 2020, Democrats blocked the Trump administration from filling the SPR at $24 per barrel, but now Biden sought to fill it at $79 per barrel
  • Biden rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement, which economists estimate will kill anywhere from 400,000 to 2.7 million jobs, force American households to spend up to 20 percent more for their electricity, and shrink the U.S. economy by $2.5 trillion.
    • President Trump withdrew from the unfair, one-sided Paris Climate Agreement.
  • Biden is pushing an unpopularelectric vehicle (EV) mandate on the American people that will eliminate thousands of auto manufacturing jobs in the United States.
  • Biden’s expansive climate restrictions have made life difficult for America’s farmers and ranchers, while his anti-energy policies have helped drive up diesel prices.
    • The Biden administration proposed new regulations that would limit farmers’ ability to utilize certain herbicides and insecticides to protect their crops.
    • The Biden administration has pushed lab-grown meat as part of environmental justice and sustainability efforts to replace “traditional meat products.”
  • President Trump will once again unleash American energy for the American people.
    • For the first time in nearly 70 years, President Trump made the United States a net energy exporter.
    • President Trump cut red tape holding back the construction of new energy infrastructure.
  • President Trump will eliminate Biden’s disastrous environmental restrictions on American agriculture, ensuring strength and stability for American farmers and the U.S. supply chain.
  • President Trump will ensure that the future of the auto industry will be made in America.
    • On Day One, President Trump will roll back every Biden policy that is brutalizing American autoworkers and will work to stop the flow of American tax dollars that are subsidizing Chinese electric vehicle battery companies.
    • To counter Chinese economic aggression and protect U.S. autoworkers, President Trump has pledged to slap a 100 percent tariff on Chinese vehicle imports.

BIDEN’S WEAK LEADERSHIP HAS EMBOLDENED AMERICA’S ADVERSARIES

MEDICARE PREMIUMS AND LONG-TERM CARE COSTS HAVE SPIKED UNDER BIDEN

  • While Biden promises to bring down health care costs, seniors saw the largest ever Medicare Part B premium increase in 2022, jumping 14.5 percent
  • Seniors are facing rising costs for long-term care thanks to Biden.
  • Despite claiming to oppose Medicare cuts, Joe Biden is actively working to enact cuts to Medicare Advantage, an increasingly popular Medicare option for seniors in America.
    • Over half of Medicare enrollees now enjoy Medicare Advantage plans because they’re provided lower costs, out-of-pocket spending limits, better care, and more benefits.
    • The Biden administration has already cut $4.7 billion in funding for Medicare Advantage, including a 1.12 percent cut to Medicare Advantage plans in 2024.
    • On top of the cuts, the Biden administration has taken several steps already to undermine the success of Medicare Advantage, including eliminating 2,000 diagnosis codes, which resulted in less coverage for seniors enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans than conventional Medicare fee-for-service.
  • President Trump expanded health care choice, transparency, and affordability.
  • President Trump signed several executive orders to increase price transparency by requiring hospitals to publish costs for a wide range of procedures, allowing patients to shop among hospitals for the most affordable healthcare.
  • President Trump eliminated the Obamacare individual mandate—a financial relief to low- and middle-income households that made up nearly 80 percent of the families who paid the penalty for not wanting to purchase health insurance.
  • Trump increased choice for consumers by promoting competition in the individual health insurance market leading to lower premiums for three years in a row.
  • Under the Trump administration, more than 90 percent of U.S. counties had multiple options on the individual insurance market to choose from.
    • President Trump offered Association Health Plans, which allow employers to pool together and offer more affordable, quality health coverage to their employees at up to 30 percent lower cost.
  • President Trump introduced price caps on insulin copays at $35 for individuals enrolled in Medicare Part D.
    • Biden is now attempting to take credit for lowering insulin costs despite the Trump administration already capping costs at $35.

AMERICANS ARE LESS SAFE UNDER BIDEN

  • According to the “nonpartisan” Council on Criminal Justice, crime has surged since 2019, with homicides up 18 percent, gun assault up 32 percent, motor vehicle theft up 105 percent, carjackings up 93 percent, and aggravated assault up 8 percent.
  • In most cities, homicide rates remain higher than pre-pandemic levels.
  • At the end of 2023, 63 percent of Americans said crime is an “extremely” or “very” serious problem in the U.S., the highest percentage since Gallup started asking the question.
    • 77 percent of Americans believe there is more crime in the U.S. than a year ago.
  • Police departments are struggling to combat both a lack of funds and a lack of respect as they try to do their jobs.
    • Democrats are on record repeatedly calling to defund the police and following through by slashing money from police budgets.
    • The Police Executive Research Forum found a nationwide decline of 4.8 percent in police numbers compared to three years ago.
  • President Trump will restore law and order and make America safe again.
    • To combat a surge of violent crime in cities, President Trump launched Operation Legend, resulting in more than 6,000 arrests. ·
    • President Trump created the first-ever White House position focused solely on combating human trafficking.
    • During President Trump’s first term, before the pandemic, violent crime had decreased by 3.7 percent and murders fell by 5.7 percent.
  • President Trump has already received endorsements from several law enforcement organizations in the 2024 presidential election, including the board of the International Union of Police Associations, the Florida Police Benevolent Association, the Police Officers Association of Michigan.

BIDEN HAS A LONG HISTORY OF OFFENSIVE RACIAL PANDERING

BIDEN HAS FAILED TO PUSH BACK ON ANTI-SEMITISM

  • Caving to progressive anti-Israel and antisemitic “activists,” Biden has backtracked on his initial support for Israel.
    • Biden said it was “a big mistake” to push for the total elimination of Hamas.
    • Biden paused an ammunition shipment to Israel amid of flurry of antisemitic protests on college campuses.
    • Biden was recently caught saying he would have a “come to Jesus meeting” with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and had previously called Israel’s response to Hamas’ horrific attack “over the top.
    • The United States failed to veto a UN Security Council Resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire without a demand for Hamas to release the hostages still being held in Gaza.
    • Biden harshly responded to the tragic accidental killing of several aid workers by Israeli forces, while his administration ignores the United States’ own miscalculated military strikes on his watch.
    • Biden has systematically undercut Israel at the UN since day one by rejoining the antisemitic UNHRC, bankrolling UNRWA’s Hamas collaborators, cancelling UN sanctions on Iran, and participating in a moment of silence for President Raisi and demanding that the IDF stand down in Rafah.
  • Meanwhile, President Trump stands with Israel and against anti-Semitism.
    • Under President Trump’s leadership the United States recognized Jerusalem as the true capital of Israel.
    • President Trump brokered four Middle East peace deals, collectively called the Abraham Accords, between Israel and Arab-Muslim nations in four months.
    • President Trump has condemned pro-Hamas protesters chanting genocidal slogans against Jews and proclaimed Israel has “to have a victory” against Hamas.

DESPITE PROMISES OF UNITY, BIDEN FREQUENTLY TARGETS HIS POLITICAL OPPONENTS

Trump Derangment Syndrome Spreads Among Far Left

Among many far-left Democrats, there is an uncontrollable hatred of President Donald Trump. These individuals suffer from “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a condition that Dr. Drew Pinsky, a board-certified physician and addiction specialist, said infects “people that get tied up in the hysteria…people that are suggestible, hypnotizable, the ones that feel out of control…have an external locus of control….detached…from their internal feelings…and placed everything out here.”

This syndrome is raging among the left as the latest Real Clear Politics poll average shows President Trump leading in a two-way race against President Joe Biden. Trump’s lead is even greater when five presidential candidates, such as Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. are included in the polling.

As Biden has been committing more embarrassing gaffes and President Trump has been raising huge amounts of money since his unfair and politicized conviction in New York, many leftwing Democrats are starting to believe their candidate will lose. In May, President Trump outraised his opponent by a staggering $60 million and this advantage will likely continue in the months to come.

Despite Biden’s big money contributors in Hollywood and Silicon Valley, Trump is starting to connect with major donors in an unprecedented way. For example, billionaire banking heir, Timothy Mellon, donated an astounding $50 million to a pro-Trump Super PAC after his guilty verdict was announced in New York.

With a frail Biden stumbling into preparations for his CNN debate against President Trump on Thursday night in Atlanta, GA, prominent Democrats are starting to get nervous. Joy Behar, one of the leftwing hosts of The View on ABC, is concerned that, if elected, Trump may “get us off the air.”

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow believes that another Trump term is a threat to “everyone…in the country.” She laughably mused that Trump would try to “destroy” his “internal enemies” if he wins again. Maddow is “worried about all of us” suffering if Trump is elected again on a mission to exact vengeance.

Obviously, these leftists are so consumed by their hatred of Trump, that they have not bothered to learn anything about him. If elected, he will have more important things to do than worry about his myriads of media critics.

He has said repeatedly that “success” will be his revenge against his many crazed enemies. He will be focused on living up to his promise to “Make America Great Again,” not canceling shows featuring Rachel Maddow or Joy Behar or jailing them. As evidence, we can refer to his first term when both of their shows continued to air, without interference from President Trump.

With serious afflictions of “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” these far-left fanatics are disconnected from reality. Clearly, the individual suffering from the worst case of “Trump Derangement Syndrome” is his former opponent Hillary Clinton, who is still bitter about losing to him in the 2016 presidential election.

In a November 2023 interview on The View, Clinton said a second Trump term “would be the end of our country as we know it.” She said the threat was “even worse now” than in 2016 because his administration would be filled “with people who have no principles, no conscience, who are totally tied to his fortunes, literally, and therefore would do whatever he said.” She claimed it would create “wreckage” that would be “almost unimaginable.”

If elected again, Clinton fumed that Trump will “throw people in jail who disagree with him, shut down legitimate press outlets, do what he can to undermine the rule of law and country’s values.”

Of course, Clinton is describing what the Biden Justice Department has done to Trump, some of his closest advisors, January 6th protestors, and a variety of concerned parents, pro-life activists, traditional Catholics, and Second Amendment supporters.

Hillary, name the prominent Democrats that President Trump charged with phony crimes or tried to jail. What left-wing press outlets did he attempt to destroy? Trump has even agreed to appear on CNN, a Trump-hating network. Not only did he participate in a 2023 CNN town hall event, but he will also appear in their debate on Thursday night.

As usual, Democrats are projecting their tactics on President Trump recent podcast interview, U.S. Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) stated that President Trump would throw her “in jail” because he is “out of his mind.” Yet, the Biden Justice Department is currently working overtime to throw President Trump in jail prior to the 2024 election.

Ocasio-Cortez claimed that a Trump victory would mean the “potential dissolution of democracy in the United States of America.” However, by trying to jail President Trump, the leading candidate in the upcoming election, the Biden administration is launching the biggest attack on “democracy” in American history. Not surprisingly, Ocasio-Cortez has no problem with the multiple investigations, indictments, and criminal counts that President Trump and his supporters are facing.

Not to be outdone, in a Saturday interview on MSNBC, U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) expressed concerns about her “safety” and “the safety of members of Congress” if Trump does not win. Waters claims that many of Trump supporters are “racist” and because of his desire for “revenge” there is a real threat to “millions of people.” Waters predicts that America could be in for “more killings” like the “insurrection” if Trump is “not elected” for another term as President.

Once again, a Democrat is guilty of projection because it was Congresswoman Waters who told a crowd of supporters in 2018 that “If you see anybody from (Trump’s) Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere!”

Even worse, several weeks ago, Waters called Trump supporters “domestic terrorists” and wondered if they were “preparing a civil war against us?”

The hateful rhetoric is not coming from President Trump. Instead, it is being spewed by Democrats afflicted with the leftwing contagion known as “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

Congress Can Save Us, Even More than Trump

The only way to curb the power of the federal government is to DEFUND much of what it does. If the federal government stopped funding the FBI, it would no longer be able to harass, hunt down and arrest people who disagree with the government. If the EPA were defunded, it wouldn’t be able to halt Western civilization and return us to the horse-and-carriage era (or worse), or force us to paralyze the electric grid by eliminating fossil fuels. If we shut down the Dept. of Education by no longer funding it, then states and localities (better yet: private sources) would have to find ways to fill kids’ brains with woke, psychotic ideology.

In short: if we take away their money, they will stop hurting us.

It seems to me that this is a peaceful, nonviolent way to avoid the civil war and/or breakup of the United States that seems increasingly imminent. By defunding and disempowering the worst elements of our government and the parts of culture it funds, then we can concentrate on electing a President and Congress to do the few, very important things our Constitution does require them to do: have a strong military and a strong border.

Republicans in Congress, for the most part, claim to agree with all this. Yet they don’t lift a finger to defund ANY of this. They can’t even manage to defund Planned Parenthood or NPR, for God’s sake! So how can we trust them to do anything else? Remember, the President cannot defund programs or federal agencies. Only Congress can.

They had better get their act together on this. Because time is running out. If the DemComs manage to hold onto power in Congress and the White House, they’ll know there are no incentives left to rein themselves in. They will see that all their efforts to establish a one-party dictatorship have worked, and there will be nothing now to stop them. That will be the absolute end of freedom in America. So it’s now or never Republicans. It may already be too late.

The Venezuelanization of American Streets

My grandma loves to joke about how she got a tooth knocked out by a motorizado (biker) in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas. “¡Dame el aro!” (Gimme the hoop!) exclaimed what looked like an off-duty bodyguard. “My hoop? What the hell?” Grandma thought to herself, before realizing the man was talking about her wedding ring.

“I never wear it when we go to church; I must’ve forgotten that day,” she tells us, in what feels like a skit. “I don’t know what got into me, but after the man pointed at his pocket and said he had a revolver, I said, ‘I have one too!’”

“Show me,” the motorizado inquired as my frozen grandpa thought to himself, “What the hell is she talking about?” She then busted open a drawer of her Toyota Corolla, expecting to scare the guy away, and proceeded to grab a Kleenex box and throw it at his face.

“Gimme the hoop!” he aggressively repeated. My grandma refused. “I could’ve gotten killed. No one knows how you’ll respond in a situation like that one,” she says. And then voilà — my grandma recalled the advice of a radio host, “be crazier than they are.” “I began fake convulsing, beating my own chest,” she says, dramatically reenacting the scene.

After a marvelous performance, the motorizado, maybe revolver-less, maybe prudent, gave up, throwing a a punch to her jaw before driving away. “Take me to the doctor!” she exclaimed to her still paralyzed husband.

The story reveals something dark about life in Caracas: tales without the happy endings abound. I remember watching a man snatch my mom’s BlackBerry and during childhood always hiding phones and sometimes crouching in the backseat.

Retelling anecdotes like these to my friends in the States often leads to amazement and laughs, and sometimes horror. Today, however, those stories feel increasingly less foreign.

Early on June 3, two New York City Police Department officers were shot, reportedly by a Venezuelan migrant on a moped. The suspect had crossed the southern border illegally in Eagle Pass, Texas. In April, another man on a scooter killed one man and injured four others in the Bronx.

“We have taken 9,500 scooters, dirt bikes and ATVs off the streets since January 1 until now. Out of those 9,500, 2,500 in the Bronx alone,” deputy commissioner of operations Kaz Daughtry said in April, following what has become a widespread rise in moped crime.

Meanwhile in Washington, DC, moped-riding Venezuelans have become ubiquitous. Some celebrate how the motorizados have transformed of DC’s food delivery scene; others are less enchanted with their recklessness.

According to the city’s DMV, moped registrations increased from fifty-four in 2022 to 143 in 2023, not counting those with missing tags. The Motorized Vehicle Registration Accountability Amendment Act of 2024 was proposed to attempt to regulate what has become uncontrollable.

Three months ago, Georgia, a Venezuelan American who usually drives around Columbia Heights, told me that she frequently finds herself yelling in Spanish at the zig-zagging moped-drivers. A friend, Owen, recently texted, “I now do bets whenever I’m driving around to see if they’ll run a stop sign or a red light. I’m right basically every time. Zero regard for any traffic laws and very few of them have plates. It’s insanity.”

“I saw one guy smash the side view mirrors of an SUV off on Constitution Avenue outside the Air and Space Museum,” another friend, Vinny, said. “He was lane splitting and got angry that a car was stopped trying to get into another lane.”

Even in Miami, it has become a problem, with Univision’s Vianca Rodriguez saying that “they’ve almost made me crash in three different occasions this month.”

Just like that, evidently driven by mass migration, American cities have observed the Venezuelafication of their streets. Of course, not all of these new drivers are from from the oil-rich country, but personal experiences and the correlation of more low-skilled Venezuelan migrants with more mopeds provides sufficient evidence to justify the use of the label.

With moped crime on the rise in the US, Venezuela — and Caracas, which has often battled for first place in the “cities with most crime” list — has seen its numbers trend in the opposite direction. The Venezuelan Observatory of Violence reported a 25 percent drop in violent deaths from 2022 to 2023.

I was surprised by improvements in safety when I visited two years ago, and called my childhood friend Luis Fernando for an update on life in Caracas.

“It’s a different country, man,” he told me, arguing that while “Venezuela is still Venezuela, most motorizados seem to be doing Yummy [an Uber equivalent] now.”

“I haven’t heard of an incident for so long. People now drive with their windows down, at any time.”

That might sound like your average Friday, but for the Venezuelans who lived there these past two decades, it sounds like Disneyland. The worst of Venezuela, including the Tren de Aragua gang , has come to El Imperio. Who would have thought? Moped crime in the Land of the Free. Just like the Americans fascinated by my childhood stories, back in Caracas, people can’t believe it. America is, quite literally, importing the third world.

The Founders Must Be Rolling Over in Their Graves After Traitor Joe’s Immigration Power Grab

During the Constitution ratification debates between the Federalists (who supported ratification) and the Anti-Federalists (who opposed it), one of the most strident areas of disagreement was the extent to which the proposed position of president of the United States was actually an ersatz king.

Leading Anti-Federalists thought the new president would be a thinly veiled monarch. In response, leading Federalists—including those who would eventually hold radically different views of presidential powers—joined forces to assuage Anti-Federalist concerns.

Multiple essays of The Federalist Papers, the Federalists’ eponymous effort to publicly promote the ratification of the Constitution, were dedicated to explaining the nature of the office of the presidency.

Trending: Ex-FBI Undercover Asset Risks All to Prove J6 Was a “Fedsurrection”

In Federalist No. 69, Alexander Hamilton—who would in subsequent years take a much stronger view of Article II presidential power than his contemporary and Federalist Papers coauthor James Madison—dedicated an entire essay to arguing that the president is not nearly as powerful as the British king. In making his case, Hamilton noted that the president “can confer no privileges whatever,” whereas the king “can make denizens of aliens” and “noblemen of commoners.”

This must be emphasized: During the fledgling nation’s constitutional ratification debates, which assumed existential importance after the failure of the Articles of Confederation, Federalists felt compelled to distinguish the presidency from the Crown on the grounds that the king “can make denizens of aliens” but the president has no such power. Indeed, the Framers cared so much about this that they explicitly accorded to Congress, in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, the power to “establish a uniform rule of naturalization.” The message was clear: The president is not a king.

Well, so much for that. This week, President Joe Biden became the second straight Democratic president to unilaterally engage, absent any authorization from the Congress, in the quintessentially kingly act of “mak[ing] denizens of aliens.”

In June 2012, former President Barack Obama issued his signature Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals executive amnesty, notwithstanding the fact that Congress had expressly rejected the DREAM Act amnesty legislation on which DACA was predicated. Two years later, Obama followed it up with Deferred Action for Parents of Americans, another executive amnesty that lacked any congressional authorizing legislation. Former President Donald Trump repealed DAPA in 2017; DACA has consistently been stymied by the federal courts, including the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in 2022.

This Tuesday, Biden joined his former boss in unilaterally promulgating a mass amnesty for the ages—this time, for an estimated half million illegal aliens now married to U.S. citizens and who have lived in the U.S. for a decade or more. In a radical departure from extant law, Biden’s amnesty would allow those illegal aliens to remain in the U.S. while they seek a green card—as opposed to forcing them, as the law requires, to return to their home country while applying for permanent residency (and thus eventually citizenship).

Biden’s amnesty is blatantly, flagrantly and offensively unconstitutional. Only Congress, not the president, can “establish a uniform rule of naturalization.” Prosecutorial discretion, which Biden (like Obama before him) laughably invokes, is only legitimate when applied on an individualized, case-by-case basis. Prosecutorial discretion does not apply to a blanket refusal to enforce large swaths of immigration law—an act which itself violates the president’s Article II, Section 3 prerogative to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.”

The president has plenary statutory authority under 8 U.S.C. 1201 to deport any alien (legal or illegal) at any time for any reason, but he does not have any reciprocal power to naturalize aliens outside of Congress.

In addition to its lawlessness, Biden’s amnesty is also profoundly unjust. It rewards lawbreaking by prioritizing those who break the law over those who follow the law. It saps national sovereignty and vitiates the single most consequential decision any self-governing people can ever make: who else is allowed to join the community. It magnetizes illicit mass migration, incentivizing millions to throw in their lot with nefarious criminal cartels, human trafficking rings, and smugglers in the hopes that they too can cross our border in the shadows, plead “asylum” and attain amnesty. The cartels are enriched and emboldened; Americans, by contrast, pay for it in the form of increased crime, drained public sources, lost jobs and cultural balkanization.

Unsurprisingly, recent public polling shows the American people have had enough. A much-discussed CBS/YouGov poll taken earlier this month revealed that a whopping 62% of Americans—including 53% of Hispanics—support deporting all illegal aliens. Biden’s executive amnesty is thus not merely illegal and immoral. It will also backfire.

Biden, like Obama before him, may view himself as a king. But unlike Britain’s king, America’s president must face the voters when he seeks reelection. And therein lies the rub.

Suddenly, the Left Discovers Tyranny

Suddenly, the leftist Commiefascist elites in media and entertainment are concerned about the possibility of … tyranny.

On “The View,” Joy Behar and others were screaming that if Trump is elected, their show will be canceled by him, since he will install a dictatorship and censor his critics. Based on what evidence? Obviously, it’s projection. They’re trying to portray themselves as victims in advance. Yet they are the censors. The Democrats and leftists — the Party of The View — are actively censoring and also arresting, and putting on trial, people with opposing views. Victimizers who portray themselves as victims are qualities you find in narcissists, sociopaths and gaslighters. What an esteemed bunch of psychopaths too many of us have anointed as our cultural spokespersons.

Additionally: Leftists are screaming that if Trump wins, they will be jailed. Well, what are we supposed to do with traitors who have violated the entire Constitution, decimated our Bill of Rights and prosecuted people for their political views? They imposed experimental medical treatments, ridiculous mask mandates, inflated the currency to increase spending beyond all rational limits, sided with ruthless Palestinian savages against our sole ally in the Middle East, imposed censorship by proxy through social media companies, and opened up the borders to any and all comers ..
All this while turning the military into a gigantic drag show, and openly rigging elections. Imprisonment is the kindest thing these monsters deserve. My vote is to charge them with treason and give them the harshest punishment under the law. Will this happen? Likely not. But millions and millions are furious beyond belief, and after November that rage could boil over.

What the boiling over will look like, we can only guess. But we can be certain: It cannot go on like this indefinitely.

Nobody HATES Like a Leftist

Leftists call anyone who disagrees with them — on anything — “haters.”

But consider all the things leftists hate.

Leftists hate the Constitution. They won’t say why, other than it was written by white men. Leftists hate white men. Some leftists are white men, so we can only assume they hate themselves.

They don’t really say why else they hate the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We can only assume it’s because it doesn’t impose Communism or fascism on the country. Leftists hate freedom, and in order to wipe out economic freedom you need socialism; in order to wipe out other kinds of freedom, you need fascism; in order to wipe out ALL freedom you need Commuism. Leftists hate the Constitution because it gets in the way of legislating absolutely everything and everyone the way they think we all should be.

Leftists hate guns — except when in the hands of government agencies doing what they want. When agents with guns show up at Donald Trump’s house, or at the house of a less well-known dissenter, then they LIKE guns. Otherwise; not so much.

Leftists hate free speech. They claim to love free speech, but they pressure social media companies to eliminate hate speech, defined as any speech they dislike. The whole purpose of free speech is that the government does not restrict anyone’s speech, ever. With leftists, it’s selective. When you bring this up to a leftist, he or she becomes irate, even hateful.

Leftists hate capitalism. Except when it’s their OWN economic choices. They hate wealth. Except when the wealthy are progressives and fellow leftists. They hate religion, except when they can manipulate or exploit religious people into doing what they want, as with environmental fascism or other kinds of controls. They count on us overlooking that their own religion — Government intervention in absolutely every aspect of our lives — is a form of state-sanctioned religion bigger than anything seen since the Holy Roman Empire of the middle ages.

I have never seen people as hateful as leftists, when they’re screaming about their leftism. Some of them are highly reasonable, personable, seemingly nice people, unless the subject of Donald Trump or anything remotely nonleftist comes up. Then they become intimidating, rude, nasty, threatening and more hateful than anyone else you’ve ever read about from Hitler or the KKK. And make no mistake: People carrying around this much hatred will, eventually, act on all of it — or at least stand passively by (silently satisfied) when their own version of Hitler or Stalin or Mussolini takes everything over and runs all dissenters out of town. Look around at what’s happening today. They don’t need a Hitler. They can do it with a demented puppet. And they’re doing it.
