Western Liberty, R.I.P

Germany is on the brink of modifying its constitution, to allow all 19 secret services to hack anyone at any time, for any reason, secretly ( https://netzpolitik.org/2020/bundesregierung-beschliesst-staatstrojaner-fuer-alle-geheimdienste ). — Mark Crispin Miller, News from Underground

We are witnessing in every Western country a rapid transformation of what were formerly free countries into police states. Governments violate their constitutions, issue edicts in place of legislation, treat citizens arbitrarily, and pursue agendas on the basis of justifications that are contrary to the facts. The digital revolution has given governments powers far beyond those of Big Brother in George Orwell’s dystopian novel, 1984.

I can remember when the year 1984 seemed to be the far distant future, and I can remember the free country in which I was born and grew up. That country is no more.

The youth of today have never experienced a free country and do not know what has been lost. Indeed, they are absorbed in the digital revolution that they think is freedom.

The “War on Terror” launched by 9/11 and the war on Covid launched in order to learn techniques of mass population control have together terminated free societies. Today privacy is a non-existent right, as are free speech, free inquiry, open pubic debate, and the right to operate a business.

In place of debate, people who disagree with official explanations enforced by the presstitutes and social media are “cancelled.” Your every email, phone call, purchase and web search is captured and used to build a profile of you for marketing purposes and for future arrest should you prove troublesome for the regime.

Whistleblowers are prosecuted despite legislation defending them from prosecution. Thought control and behavior control are imposed by firing people and destroying their careers for using unapproved words and taking unapproved positions.

The collapse of liberty has been rapid in the 21st century. But it has been creeping upon us for some time. Few Americans alive today remember when a wife could not testify against her husband or a husband against his wife. Such testimony was considered a violation of marriage that had formed one out of two. It was self-incrimination, which is prohibited by the US Constitution in those days when the Constitution was respected and had authority.

Few who are alive remember that the marriage contract was in part a sexual contract and there was no such thing as “wife rape.”

There was no such thing as Child Protective Services with the power to intervene in the family, seize children from parents, and have parents prosecuted on charges of child neglect or abuse whether real or fabricated.

You could yell at and spank your child without being arrested. You didn’t live in fear that bruises from sports activity or falling off a bike would be noticed by a school teacher, doctor, or neighbor and result in an intrusion into the family by Child Protective Services determined to prosecute parents in order to justify the budget.

Kids of my generation were free to be wherever they chose to be without adult supervision on week-ends, holidays from school, and summers as long as they were home by dinner time. Our bikes made us mobile, and we could be anywhere in range of a bike and a pair of legs, and our parents weren’t arrested for child neglect. It was mass third world immigration, integration of formerly stable homogeneous neighborhoods, and the rise of the pedophile sex trade that made children no longer safe. Multicultural society failed to protect children and began persecuting parents instead.

A person could start a car without, if it had a manual transmission, having to push the clutch petal to the floor. A person could drive away without having to put on a seat belt or endure endless beeping. Soon, if not already, you must be strapped in or the car will not move. The range of free judgment has been greatly narrowed. Even the appliances we use bully us.

I could go on at great length, but it is too depressing.

If Donald Trump wins the election and is permitted to be inaugurated, perhaps he will make it a part of “making America great again” to get the intrusive government out of our lives. I was born a free person, and I would like to die a free person.

But I am not holding my breath.

Poll: Donald Trump set to win US presidency by electoral college landslide

DONALD TRUMP is on course to win four more years in the White House with a one point lead in the popular win, the final Democracy Institute poll for the Sunday Express has found.

The survey of voters by the US President’s favourite pollsters gives him 48 percent ahead of his rival Joe Biden on 47 percent.

In the last days of the campaign the Democrat former vice president who has been dogged by corruption allegations surrounding his son Hunter which have, according to the poll, cut through with the electorate.

The last Democracy Institute/Sunday Express poll gave the US President a two point lead and landed just after he went into hospital with coronavirus.

Significantly, the President has, according to the latest findings, maintained a four point lead of 49 percent to 45 percent in the key swing states including Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

It means he is on course to easily win the electoral college by 326 to 212 votes against his Democrat rival in a result which would shock the world even more than his astonishing defeat of Hilary Clinton in 2016.

The Democracy Institute/Sunday Express poll has throughout the campaign been one of the few to predict a Trump victory since March.

This is because unlike other polls it only looks at people identifying as likely voters instead of just registered to vote and it has tried to identify the shy Trump vote.

According to this latest poll almost eight in ten (79 percent) of Trump supporters would not admit it to friends and family compared to 21 percent of Biden supporters.

With the race hotting up in the final days allegations that Mr Biden and his family are corrupt surrounding claims about his son Hunter’s business dealings with China and the Ukraine using family connections appear to have had cut through.

There was controversy when social media platforms including Twitter apparently attempted to filter out the stories surrounding Hunter Biden published by the New York Post.

But the row has, according to the poll, only helped to put the issue in the public consciousness more.

Asked who they thought was telling the truth about the Biden family allegations 57 percent chose businessman and former Biden associate Tony Bobulinski who has levelled accusations against the former vice President.

Meanwhile, 52 percent agreed that Mr Biden is “a corrupt politician” with 21 percent saying they are less likely to vote for him and 75 percent saying it makes no difference.

Asked if the allegations made him a national security risk, 54 percent agreed that it did.

The US President’s job approval rating it now at 52 percent which, according to the Democracy Institute director Patrick Basham, is now at “normal levels” to expect to be reelected.

And even after the Black Lives Matter protests, almost four in ten black voters approve of his presidency and 21 percent are prepared to vote for him.

Mr Trump’s two strongest issues among voters are still ranked the most important – the economy and law and order – both at 29 percent.

In comparison coronavirus, where the President’s approval rating is not as high, is fourth on 20 percent as the most important issue.

According to the findings 61 percent think Mr Trump will be better for the economy but only 45 percent approve of his handling of coronavirus while 49 percent disapprove.

Meanwhile, Mr Biden still comes a distant third when asked about who has had the most positive impact on the criminal justice system with 14 percent behind both Mr Trump and the celebrity Kim Kardashian both on 43 percent.

Mr Basham said: “Our final Democracy Institute poll shows President Donald Trump, the Republican standard bearer, holding a razor thin one-point national lead over his Democratic rival, former Vice President Joe Biden. This is a statistical tie that falls firmly within the poll’s margin of error.

“The election will not be decided by the popular vote, of course; instead, it will be decided within the battleground states located primarily in the nation’s Midwest and Sunbelt regions.

“The Republican’s vote is a very efficient one, as it was in 2016. This is the president’s Trump card.

“Trump’s voters are more evenly dispersed across the country than are Biden’s.

“Biden’s comparatively inefficient vote is likely to mirror Hillary Clinton’s from four years ago. Biden will do incredibly well in the heavily populated states of California, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York. In these states, and in others reliably painted a deep Democratic blue, he will rack up enormous margins of victory over Trump, providing him with the potential to score a national popular vote victory, yet probably depriving him of sufficient votes in Iowa, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Arizona, North Carolina, and Florida to turn Trump into a one-term president.”

Pollsters Warn of Flawed Election Day Predictions: ‘People Are Going to Be Shocked’ by ‘Shy,’ ‘Hidden’ Trump Voters

Notable pollsters are cautioning Americans to refrain from getting too comfortable with polling predictions as Election Day approaches, suggesting polls may not account for “shy” or “hidden” Trump voters– those who are largely responsible for President Trump’s upset victory four years ago. In this election, the magnitude of such voters could be even greater.

Politico spoke to two pollsters who “weren’t blindsided” by the Trump phenomenon in 2016: Arie Kapteyn and Robert Cahaly.

Cahaly is the chief pollster with the Trafalgar Group, which RealClearPolitics’ co-founder and president, Tom Bevan, called “one of the most accurate polling operations in America” because of its predictions in the last two political cycles. In 2016, Cahaly showed Trump winning both Pennsylvania and Michigan. His polls also showed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) leading his Democrat challenger, Andrew Gillum, in 2018’s gubernatorial race.

“Kapteyn, a Dutch economist who leads the USC’s Dornsife Center for Economic and Social Research, oversaw the USC/Los Angeles Times poll that gave Trump a 3-point lead heading into election day—which, Kapteyn notes, was wrong: Clinton won the popular vote by 2 points,” Politico reported, adding that both men suspect that surveys could be, once again, “undercounting” the support for President Trump. They attribute this phenomenon to “shy” Trump voters, or people “reluctant to share their opinions for fear of being judged.” These voters are more commonly known among GOP circles as the “silent majority.”

Kapteyn and his team at USC have attempted to identify this mysterious demographic by asking respondents whom they believe their friends and neighbors will vote for, in addition to whom they are supporting personally.

While Biden leads by double-digits nationally for the routine question of who the respondent supports, his lead shrinks to five or six points in what Kapteyn described as the “‘social-circle’ question.”

“One explanation for that may indeed be ‘social desirability.’ In general—and certainly on the phone—people may still be a little hesitant to say to [sic] that they’re Trump voters,” he explained.

While Cahaly said he is “not even debating” if Joe Biden will secure the popular vote, he believes Trump is “likely” to enjoy another victory in the Electoral College due to the “hidden Trump votes out there.”

“We live in a country where people will lie to their accountant, they’ll lie to their doctor, they’ll lie to their priest,” Cahaly explained. “And we’re supposed to believe they shed all of that when they get on the telephone with a stranger?”

He told Politico he focuses on battleground state polls rather than national surveys and stated that “people are going to be shocked.”null

“A lot of people are going to vote this year who have been dormant or low-propensity voters. I think it’s going to be at an all-time high,” he predicted.

“The models of who’s going to turn out this year are very flawed. What type of person comes out for Trump? They’re not a normal election participant. They’re a low-propensity voter. We included them in all of our surveys in fall 2016, and we are including them now,” he continued.

Many of the Trafalgar Group surveys released in the last week show Trump and Biden statistically tied in key battleground states. While a Trafalgar Group survey released this week showed Biden up by less than half of a percentage point in Wisconsin, an ABC/Washington Post survey also released this week showed Biden up by 17 percent.

Cahaly believes the magnitude of the “shy” Trump voter could be even greater this year due to the heightened tensions across the board, particularly against Trump supporters.

“In 2016, the worst being said about Trump voters is that they were ‘deplorable.’ 2020 is a whole different ballgame,” Cahaly said. “It is worse this time—significantly worse.”null

“This year had more things where you can get punished for expressing an opinion outside the mainstream than almost any year I can think of in modern history,” he continued, adding that he is finding that people are “very hesitant [to share their preference for Trump], because now it’s not just being called ‘deplorable.’”

“It’s people getting beat up for wearing the wrong hat, people getting harassed for having a sticker on their car. People just do not want to say anything,” he explained:

We talk to lots of people in our surveys. And I hear things like, “Yeah, I’m for Trump, my neighbors are for Trump, but there’s one neighbor who just hates Trump. And when he walks his dog, he kind of wrinkles his nose by those houses, and I don’t want him to do it at my house, so I don’t put a Trump sign. I like the guy, and I don’t want him mad at me.” I hear stuff like that all the time. People are playing their cards close to their chest because there’s a stigma to being for Trump. What happens when the stigma rolls away from people who hide their vote, and they start admitting where they are? This is what I think is going to happen on Election Day.

When asked what he would say to voters who believe the election is locked up for Biden, Cahaly emphasized his belief in “hidden” Trump voters.

“I don’t think it’s done. Some of these national polls are not even taking into consideration the fact that Republicans have closed the gap with voter registrations,” he said, adding that they are not “taking into account the number of low-propensity voters who are voting and who will vote on Election Day.”

“I don’t think they’re measuring people’s genuine opinions. And I think [pollsters] are just not going to see it coming,” he said.

“I will be really surprised, given our own numbers, if there isn’t a very sizable gap between Biden and Trump in the popular vote—in favor of Biden,” Kapteyn said. “But in the states? I don’t know.”

All eyes are on key swing states, such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida, North Carolina, Arizona, and even Minnesota as Election Day swiftly approaches. Over the weeks, Breitbart News has spoken to dozens of Trump supporters across those states, Florida and Wisconsin, particularly, who also expressed the belief that the silent majority will show up in a greater volume than in 2016.

“We have everything, and I said, well, after hearing that they were going to pack the court, I finally said I’m putting my Trump flag up,” Bryce, a Wisconsin resident, recently told Breitbart News.

“Wouldn’t you know? Dozens in my neighborhood went up. The lesbian couple across the street — they’re very nice people; we love them — I didn’t think they’d ever put one up. They’ve got a Trump flag. There’s a lot of support that is sleeper support,” he continued.

“It’s like you gotta just ‘shh’ — just be cool,” he said. “Show up to the polls and vote, you know.”

“It’s like it’s a secret but when you meet somebody else in the secret society that supports Trump — because you can’t do it publicly or people will rip you. You know,” Bryce added when asked if there is a bigger and stronger silent majority from 2016.

President Trump is expected to hold three rallies in Pennsylvania on Saturday, one of the states he unexpectedly won four years ago, followed by stops in Michigan, Iowa, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida on Sunday.

$ 4,250 an Hour to Teach Hate

MADISON — Pushers of ‘white privilege’ and “critical race theory” are making a killing on Woke campuses with an insatiable appetite for racist antiracism.

This week, the University of Wisconsin-Madison (where white shaming is a hotter commodity than Badger T-shirts) hosted a virtual event dubbed, “The Pandemic Effect: Exposing Racism and Inequalities.”

The two-day session featured Robin DiAngelo, critical race educator and author of the New York Times bestseller, “White Fragility.” The keynote speaker for UW-Madison’s 2020 Diversity Forum earned a cool $12,750 for her three-hour address, according to The College Fix. That’s $4,250 per hour.

What did DiAngelo do to earn such a hefty pay day? She told the 3,300 people who viewed her discussion, “Seeing the Racial Water,” that the world is mired in systemic discrimination, such as sexism and ableism. Of course the white people tuning in wouldn’t understand, the charlatan asserted.

“If you are white and you have not devoted years of sustained study, struggle and focus on this issue, you will have opinions that will be uninformed and superficial,” DiAngelo said during her speech, The College Fix reported.

DiAngelo, who is white, would not allow her session to be filmed. Her contracts stipulate as much.

Forum attendees also could join interactive breakout sessions on “Witnessing Whiteness at UW-Madison.” They could learn that “Niceness is not anti-racism,” or be schooled on “Liars, Cheaters and Short-Haired Girls: Lessons on Gender Identity, Discrimination, Microaggressions and Beyond.”

It looks like two corporations chipped in to this white-shaming event.

“Thank you to sponsors American Family Insurance and US Bank for helping keep the UW–Madison Diversity Forum free and open to the entire community,” a UW webpage states.

As Empower Wisconsin reported earlier this month, Ibram X. Kendi, maybe the most well-known of the antiracism hucksters, raked in $20,000 in August to indoctrinate Fairfax County, Va. school leaders and administrators. Kendi was widely criticized for characterizing Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett as a “white colonizer.” Why? Because Barrett and her husband, who are white, had the audacity to add to their loving family two children they adopted from impoverished Haiti.

His books are being purchased and taught to students in Madison, Stoughton and elsewhere. And Kendi is scheduled to speak next week at Madison College. The event is sold out.*

K-12: The Life and Death of the Mind

The life of the mind.  This lovely phrase states what education is supposed to be about.  All things bright and cerebral.  Play chess.  Write a story.  Devise a plan for any goal.  Weigh evidence for and against any proposal.  Note that you could be perfectly still.  These activities occur inside the brain.

Hannah Arendt (1906–1975) wrote a book about the contemplative life, about thinking itself.  Her title was The Life of the Mind.  The phrase provides an elegant way to gauge the success of our public schools.  Good schools enlarge the life of the mind.  Bad schools do the opposite.

Perversely, and to a startling degree, our K–12 schools encourage the death of the mind.  The strategy is straightforward.  Discredit and eliminate the traditional basics — reading, arithmetic, knowledge, and the discipline to use them.

Reading is taught in confusing and counterproductive ways.  Similarly, arithmetic is undercut by dismissing mastery and memorization.  Foundational information, including geography, history, and science, is scattered about like parts from an IKEA project you don’t know how to assemble.

Allen Tate, a famous poet, said: “The purpose of education is … the discipline of the mind for its own sake; these ends are to be achieved through the mastery of fundamental subjects which cluster around language and number[.]”

Progressive educators seem to have reached a deep insight.  If they can limit “language and number,” everything else is limited.  Taking no chances, they also seem intent on limiting fundamental knowledge.  There are now hundreds of videos on the internet where people on the street are asked simple questions, a quick way of showing how ignorant our society has become.  Look at a half-dozen videos by Jay Leno, Jesse Watters, Mark Dice, Jimmy Kimmel, and a new one called “my world is getting dumber.”  Yes, it is.

The life of the mind has become disconnected from the life of children in our public schools.  It’s like talking about the athletic life of people confined to their beds.  The death of the mind may be more commonplace than the life of the mind.

One literary metaphor might be a neighborhood built on toxic waste.  But the malignancy in public schools seems more intentional and personal.  Imagine homes built on an Indian burial ground.  Angry spirits roam the neighborhood.  They are malevolent — grabbing at your feet, pulling you down.  The professors who design classroom methods seem hostile toward children, academic achievement, and their own country.

If there are constraints on all things cognitive, mental, intellectual, or academic, what happens to the life of the mind?  It shrivels.

The best way to prepare children to do all these things is simply to do them, every day, starting early.  If you want your children to ski, put their boots on and take them to a beginner’s slope.  Kids should start with the simple version of everything.  If they cannot play chess, they play checkers.  If they can’t play checkers, they play tic-tac-toe.  School should feel easy for children.  That’s how you entice them into learning, unlike Common Core, which tricks them into giving up.

The pretenders in control of our public schools start with elaborately difficult things.  Or they don’t start at all.  There you have the secret for destroying the life of the mind.

The Education Establishment can get away with its intellectual infantilization because there’s little criticism.  There is only an all-enveloping silence and apparent acceptance of what the ideological extremists demand.  Foundations, universities, and the media  appear to agree.  Well, you know what liberals used to say: if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.  That’s especially true in the case of our newspapers and other media.

This article is intended to help everyone pretend you are a child in our public schools.  You have been taught very little.  You can hardly read.  You cannot multiply and divide.  Academically, you’re the walking wounded.  Finally, the life of the mind is a half-life.  How does it feel?

The Education Establishment fills the air with new verbiage, new programs, new initiatives, new goals, new jargon, new marketing plans.  These people really do seem to hate clarity and transparency.  Their ideas have nothing to do with curing the problem; their ideas are the problem.

They should stop doing the same counterproductive things they have been doing for years.  From now on, do what the song suggests: teach the children well.

Here are some examples of how it probably feels to have no life of the mind: extreme forgetfulness.  Dementia.  Near drowning.  Alcoholism.  Amnesia.  Oxygen deprivation.  Traumatic brain injury.

Concussion — it’s probably a lot like that.  The best people never tire of lamenting the violence of football even as they support educational policies that achieve the same results.

Bruce Deitrick Price’s new book is Saving K–12: What happened to our public schools? How do we fix them?  A good gift.

Trump’s Perfect Storm

Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

President Donald J Trump is the luckiest man on the planet and in this case his luck is earned by incredibly hard work. As the final days of the campaign are winding down, we are watching the perfect storm for a big re-election. We are witnessing one of the most unique elections seen in modern times as the virus is not only the main scare tactic of the Communist Party, it is also the most damaging plague on their Get Out The Fraud Campaign.

Our small group who have been chasing votes in the GOTV portion have noticed we are the only ones chasing votes. The usual army of Dems in this got the Blues state of Oregon is void of the Peoples Army beating the streets. There are no union workers, no paid workers and no people period going door to door. A part of it is there is no feeling of necessity since it is not really a contested state, but there is nobody manning the fort which is good news for upsetting a few local folks and who knows a long shot for Trump.

The other factor is there is nobody allowed into the old folk homes to gather ballots in the numbers they have done in the past. They are not able to fill out the dementia and dying people’ votes as they have done in the past with their union workers. They likely will have their usual counting fraud although that is being hamstrung due to spacing and virus protocols so their machine in Oregon is obviously broken and it will be closer to a fair fight than it has been in decades.

If this is the case across the country, it is possible the fraud may not be as easy to do as has been done in the past which is why they are beginning to panic. There are already rumors as they are not getting the normal votes they manufacture in Miami and Philly which looks like Florida is very likely in Trump’s hand and as they say, as goes Florida so goes the election. If places like Milwaukie and Philly are having the same problems due to the Chinese virus it may be a runaway for President Trump. It appears from this deep blue state, which is locked down tighter than Alcatraz, nobody on the DNC side wants to talk to anyone let alone knock doors and this is the critical time to be knocking and winning.

The time is now to get the late voting Repubs and Independents since nobody is talking to them. It is a completely open field waiting to be harvested so all the Trumpsters have to go out and knock those doors and give out the voter guides. You will be amazed how many people thank you for the guide to fill out their ballot.

Make sure to give the person plenty of space but they are happy to see you and wanting to talk. This has the smell of something historic as it has come down to do you want to stay locked down or do you want out of your house and back to living your life?

Oh, how fun is it to see those sanctimonious mediots twisting themselves into a pretzel screaming, Not Ukraine, Not Russia, Not China Joe. After four years of outrage they haven’t the slightest curiosity whether their guy is corrupt, well at least we can be assured they are since they prove it every day. They are the dirty cops who are paid off by the drug dealer only at least the cops are paid, these dirty cops do it for free. You can’t even call them prostitutes since prostitutes provide a service.

The problem with this scandal it is too easy to understand and everyone knows Senile Joe is not sharp enough to hide it. Oh, he may scold a dirty cop for axing him a question but that tape of him withholding the Billion until the guy is fired while his son is being paid millions by the company he was investigating is not too hard to understand. So, America knows they were getting paid and why, so it is no stretch to understand if you are being bribed for one thing you brag about you are probably getting bribed for others too. Even Humpty Dumpty’s men cannot keep that together.

It is really fun watching these corrupt networks try to tell you it is sunny outside while they are soaked to the bone reporting it. Of course, the Russians made those 30,000 emails and documents and Hillary has never taken a dollar either. Their schtick is getting old and tired and with the internet the truth may take a few more clicks but it is a couple seconds away or you can turn into Fox and get the other side of the story and decide who is telling the truth.

The final good fortune for Trump is the replacement of RBG, the saint of the left. Right when it is likely there are going to be all sorts of rulings on attempted voter fraud by certain Governors like CA and MI, he gets an extra Justice to follow the Constitution. You cannot change Federal election laws with your state in a Federal election and there are going to be numerous rulings on just that. You can already hear rumblings of he is not a legitimate President and that will be amplified after the Red Wave hits.

What we are seeing on the street in our tiny area is everyone is voting. The Dems certainly turned out, but they appear to be catchable since there are some real issues with their tried and true after the fires and virus. The sleeping giant appears to be awake, but you do not want to raise your voice too loud with the violence around Portland. No telling if they are getting the numbers they need or if Dems are staying with their communist ideals? In the end you can only affect your own neighborhood and if everyone does that, they can change the larger state and country.

With all the good fortune President Trump has you would almost believe God is really in control, not the GOP or DNC or even China, it is God. Stay with the prayers fervently and continuously that the stumbling blocks continue for the enemies.

This one is for the survival of America and freedom which nobody can argue. This is MAGAA or Burn America Down and nobody is making any qualms about it, they despise this country and want it destroyed. You will lose your house and car as they institute draconian regulations on energy and freedom, this is the choice. History has shown once you give up your freedom you will never get it back.

Hate can only take you so far and soon you run out of haters. This is what this election is about and where it will be won. If you are in the GOTV campaign get your lists for your town or neighborhood of those who have not voted or committed to voting and chase down the last few. You will be out there alone as the other side is not out there and have handcuffed themselves with masks and distancing. They will not use cars to chase these final voters which even magnifies your advantage.

My prediction is Trump will keep the states he had last time and add MN, NM and NV to those with the long shots of OR and NJ joining them which should be around 345 EV. Donald J Trump is the luckiest man on the planet or maybe God is watching over America still.

Pray for the harvest.

The Return of the Flagellants (today known as Buzz Killers)

The lockdowns have disproportionately targeted fun. No house parties. No travel. Bowling, bars, Broadway, theater, amusement parks, all banned. Weddings, forget it. Restaurants, hotels, conventions, and even golf were all targeted by the lockdowners.

There is an ethos here. To beat the disease, you have to suffer. You have to eschew joy. You must sit at home and go out only for bare essentials. Even today, the great disease mitigator Andrew Cuomo, who already admitted in a phone call that the lockdowns were not science but fear, has warned New Yorkers not to travel outside the state except when absolutely necessary.

There is even a costume associated with the new national penance. It’s a long sweater dress, wool leggings, clompy sneakers, gloves, and the biggest face covering you can find. It’s not about safety. It’s about symbolizing your virtue, contrition, and allegiances.

The first time I saw this costume, which reminds me of women at a Taliban funeral, was back in mid-March. A hipster millennial, once living a carefree life, found new meaning in suffering for a cause, and quickly turned on anyone not dressed in dread while listening to the Dies Irae in one’s head.

What’s going on here? Surely this is not about the science. There is a moral drama at work, one that taps deeply into some spiritual impulse within people. It’s about the belief that bad things are happening to us because we have sinned. The clothing and the banning of fun are part of our acts of contrition and our penance for wrongdoing. Sounds crazy? Not so much. Otherwise, it is hard to explain. And this kind of response to disease is not unprecedented.

Eyewitness to History explains that the Flagellants were a religious movement that arose during the Black Death:

The Flagellants were religious zealots of the Middle Ages in Europe who demonstrated their religious fervor and sought atonement for their sins by vigorously whipping themselves in public displays of penance. This approach to achieving redemption was most popular during times of crisis. Prolonged plague, hunger, drought and other natural maladies would motivate thousands to resort to this extreme method of seeking relief. Despite condemnation by the Catholic Church, the movement gained strength and reached its greatest popularity during the onslaught of the Black Death that ravaged Europe in the mid-fourteenth century. Wearing white robes, large groups of the sect (many numbering in the thousands) roamed the countryside dragging crosses while whipping themselves into a religious frenzy.

Here is a firsthand account of the Flagellants in the 14th century by Sir Robert of Avesbury, as quoted from Norman Cohn’s classic work Pursuit of the Millennium:

In that same year of 1349, about Michaelmas (September, 29) over six hundred men came to London from Flanders, mostly of Zeeland and Holland origin. Sometimes at St Paul’s and sometimes at other points in the city they made two daily public appearances wearing cloths from the thighs to the ankles, but otherwise stripped bare. Each wore a cap marked with a red cross in front and behind.

Each had in his right hand a scourge with three tails. Each tail had a knot and through the middle of it there were sometimes sharp nails fixed. They marched naked in a file one behind the other and whipped themselves with these scourges on their naked and bleeding bodies.

Four of them would chant in their native tongue and, another four would chant in response like a litany. Thrice they would all cast themselves on the ground in this sort of procession, stretching out their hands like the arms of a cross. The singing would go on and, the one who was in the rear of those thus prostrate acting first, each of them in turn would step over the others and give one stroke with his scourge to the man lying under him.

This went on from the first to the last until each of them had observed the ritual to the full tale of those on the ground. Then each put on his customary garments and always wearing their caps and carrying their whips in their hands they retired to their lodgings. It is said that every night they performed the same penance.

The Catholic Encyclopedia explains the terrifying movement in more detail:

The Flagellants became an organized sect, with severe discipline and extravagant claims. They wore a white habit and mantle, on each of which was a red cross, whence in some parts they were called the “Brotherhood of the Cross”. Whosoever desired to join this brotherhood was bound to remain in it for thirty-three and a half days, to swear obedience to the “Masters” of the organization, to possess at least four pence a day for his support, to be reconciled to all men, and, if married, to have the sanction of his wife.

The ceremonial of the Flagellants seems to have been much the same in all the northern cities. Twice a day, proceeding slowly to the public square or to the principal church, they put off their shoes, stripped themselves to the waist and prostrated themselves in a large circle.

By their posture they indicated the nature of the sins they intended to expiate, the murderer lying on his back, the adulterer on his face, the perjurer on one side holding up three fingers, etc. First they were beaten by the “Master”, then, bidden solemnly in a prescribed form to rise, they stood in a circle and scourged themselves severely, crying out that their blood was mingled with the Blood of Christ and that their penance was preserving the whole world from perishing. At the end the “Master” read a letter which was supposed to have been brought by an angel from heaven to the church of St. Peter in Rome. This stated that Christ, angry at the grievous sins of mankind, had threatened to destroy the world, yet, at the intercession of the Blessed Virgin, had ordained that all who should join the brotherhood for thirty-three and a half days should be saved. The reading of this “letter,” following the shock to the emotions caused by the public penance of the Flagellants, aroused much excitement among the populace.

To reiterate, these people expected everyone else to celebrate them, for it was they who were keeping the world from falling apart completely. Their sacrifice was an act of benevolence to the rest of humankind, so how dare people show ingratitude! Even worse, the more people continued to live in revelry and fun, the more the Flagellants had to punish themselves. For this reason, they felt and showed disdain for anyone who declines to join their cause.

If you do not see the parallels here with what’s going on today, you haven’t been paying attention for 7 months. See, for example, the tremendous media hatred for Trump rallies. This also helps explain why the lockdowners celebrated the BLM protests but condemned the anti-lockdown protests. The former are seen as part of penance for sin whereas the latter are calls to persist in sin.

The Catholic Church, which has a long history of crushing nutty extremism within its ranks, was clear: this was a “dangerous heresy;” the real epidemic, the Church opined, was not the disease but an “heretical epidemic.” None of it mattered: the movements grew and persisted for hundreds of years, proving yet again that once fear and irrationality take hold, it can take a very long time for rationality to return.

But how can this be? We are not a very religious people as we were in the Middle Ages. Where are the priests guiding the new Flagellants? What is the sin we are attempting to expiate? It  doesn’t take that much imagination. The priests are the data scientists and media stars who have been calling for lockdowns and celebrating them now for most of 2020. And what is the sin? It doesn’t take that much imagination to extend this analysis: people voted for the wrong person to be president.

Maybe my theory here is wrong. Maybe there is something else going on. Maybe we are really talking about a general loss of meaning in life, a guilt that comes from prosperity, a desire on the part of many to turn lights of civilization off and wallow in suffering for a time to purge ourselves of the stain of vice. Whatever the answer to the question of why that this is really happening, and that it has nothing to do with actual science, is an observation that seems incontrovertible.

In England in the 14th century, when the marauding Flagellants came to town, good members of the community found these people amusing and rather ridiculous, and otherwise they went about their lives, having fun and building a better and more prosperous society. Let those who desire to suffer be free to do so. As for the rest of us, let us get back to having good lives, including partaking in actual fun.

We are in so Much Trouble: “Not All People with Periods are Female”–Proctor & Gamble

Tampon brand Tampax sparked a firestorm on social media after it said that “not all people with periods are women.”

The company, owned by Procter & Gamble, shared the message on Sept. 15, but it has recently sparked fierce debate and gone viral — with some bashing the company for alienating biological women.

“Fact: Not all women have periods,” the tweet says. “Also a fact: Not all people with periods are women. Let’s celebrate the diversity of all people who bleed!”

Tampax included the tags #mythbusting, #periodtruths and #transisbeautiful.

But the tweet prompted some women to boycott the brand.

“This ad is misogynistic and advocates erasing women. So goodbye 4ever!!!” one critic wrote.

Others slammed the message as “anti-woman.”

“I’m genuinely interested to know who at @Tampax thought it might be a good idea to gamble your entire client base (Biological Women) against this anti-factual and anti-woman, virtue vomit,” another critic said.

Meanwhile, others praised the company for being inclusive of the trans community — and blasted those who took issue with the message.

“Lovely as always to see bigots absolutely bewildered that the world has left them behind and science didn’t permanently freeze during their 5th grade biology class in 1983,” one person wrote in defense of Tampax.

“Yes. Yes. Yes,” another supporter responded. “A million times yes. Inclusivity hurts no one. If you’re mad about this, let’s talk.”

“Literally yes, trans men and non binary people get periods,” another person wrote. “How is that so hard to understand?”

No Debate over Welfare-Warfare State

Unfortunately, there has been no debate and discussion in the 2020 presidential race over the two greatest infringements on the liberty and well-being of the American people — the welfare state and the national-security state. That shouldn’t surprise us though given that both Republicans and Democrats, along with the mainstream press, are so wedded to the New Deal/Great Society revolution that began in the 1930s and the national-security state conversion that took place in the 1940s.

At least Republican Ronald Reagan would periodically take swipes at Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal and Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society, pointing out how this entire socialist paradigm had done so much harm to America. Reagan could also eloquently point out the virtues of the free market and voluntary charity.

Not Donald Trump. He is as committed to the New Deal/Great Society paradigm, especially its crown jewels of Social Security and Medicare, as Joe Biden is. That’s why we have heard not a whit of criticism of the New Deal and that Great Society programs and how they transformed American life for the worse.

It’s no different with the national-security state way of life that America adopted in the 1940s. Oh, sure, there has been plenty of discussion about ending the so-called forever wars. But both Trump and Biden have been notably silent about what to do with the governmental apparatus that is responsible for waging these wars, which consists of the Pentagon, the CIA, and the NSA.

That silence shouldn’t surprise us. Both Trump and Biden believe in the national-security state. Oh, sure, they might propose this reform or that reform, or they might call for a reduction in the rate of increase in military spending, but rest assured: Whoever is elected president is never going to question the existence of the national-security state apparatus itself and advocate the restoration of a limited-government republic, which was America’s founding governmental system.

Even Republican President Eisenhower warned about how the national-security state — which he called the “military-industrial complex” — posed a grave threat to the liberty and democratic processes of the American people. Not so with President Trump. While he might carp and complain about the operations of the CIA, the Pentagon, or the NSA, he doesn’t see them as threats or dangers to America. And, of course, neither does Biden.

The fact is that both Trump and Biden and their respective supporters, as well as the mainstream press, have made peace with the welfare state and the national-security state. You’re never going to hear from either Trump or Biden why it was an enormous mistake for the Roosevelt and Johnson regimes to have adopted Social Security and Medicare as permanent socialist programs in America. While they might carp and complain and even vow to end their “forever wars,” there will be no mention of closing down domestic military bases and shutting down Cold War dinosaurs like the CIA and the NSA.

A free society necessary depends on the removal of infringements on liberty. If we libertarians are to achieve a free society, it is imperative that we strike the root of the two biggest infringements on liberty today: the welfare state, especially its two crown jewels Social Security and Medicare, as well as the warfare state, including the Pentagon, the vast military-industrial complex, the CIA and the NSA. To achieve freedom, we have to lift the vision of the American people to a higher level. We need to make the clear and convincing case to our fellow Americans for a genuinely free society, one in which there are no socialist programs, one in which charity is 100 percent voluntary, and in which a limited-government republic, not a national-security state, prevails. Striking the root, rather than the branches, of the welfare-warfare state, is what will lead our nation to liberty, peace, prosperity, and harmony.

If Elected, Democrats Will Hold America Hostage

Democrats, if we vote for them, promise us unlimited totalitarian rule. If we fail to vote for them, they promise violence, terrorism and anarchy. The United States is being held hostage by the political party once led by FDR, Truman and JFK. Not since the KKK or the National Socialist movement of Hitler has a movement been as full of vitriolic hatred of liberty, and mindless intolerance of dissenters. How on earth can anyone support them?

“We are going to get a whole lot done. Everything, everything is on the table.”
–Senator Chuck Schumer

This is YOUR FREEDOM he is putting on the table. If you vote for his party, and I lose my individual rights, I AM HOLDING YOU PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE.
